Choose a starting point
If Korean writing is new to you, begin on Day 1. If you can already read words such as 가방 and 우유 without romanization, start on Day 3. If you can introduce yourself politely, go to Day 5 and practise listening as well as reading.
A practical seven-day checklist
Tick a day after doing its task and readiness check. Ticks record your own study notes; they do not certify a skill. They stay in this browser, and you can clear them below.
Read the first blocks
Learn a small set of consonants and vowels. Build 가, 나, 다, 마, and 아. Read them in a different order, then write each from memory.
Ready to move on? Can you explain why 아 needs an initial ㅇ even though it starts with a vowel sound?
Hangul alphabet →Read words, not letter names
Read 우유, 가구, and 나무. Split each into syllable blocks. Then compare 가 and 강: the final position changes the sound.
Ready to move on? Can you point to the initial consonant, vowel, and any final consonant in each block?
Syllable blocks →Listen, repeat, compare
Use the lesson audio when available. Listen once without reading, then repeat while reading. Compare the vowels 어 and 오; do not assume English spelling represents them exactly.
Ready to move on? Can you read the word before consulting romanization, and notice which sound still needs work?
Pronunciation →Introduce yourself politely
Practise 안녕하세요, 저는 …예요/이에요, and 만나서 반가워요. Change the name in the model rather than memorising only the sample.
Ready to move on? Can you introduce yourself without saying 당신 to the other person?
First conversation guide →Give words a job
Study the café example with 은/는, 이/가, and 을/를. Build 저는 차를 마셔요, then change 차 to 커피.
Ready to move on? Can you identify the topic and the thing being drunk, and choose the particle by the noun ending?
Particles in context →Order something specific
Read a quantity such as 커피 두 잔 and a price such as 삼천 원. Keep the two number systems separate.
Ready to move on? Can you explain why 두 잔 and 이천 원 use different number forms?
Numbers and counters →Use a short conversation
Read the café dialogue aloud with both roles. Change the drink, the quantity, and whether you want takeaway. Then do the practice questions without looking at the model.
Ready to move on? Can you make your own order and ask someone to repeat a reply?
Café conversation →0 of 7 study days ticked.
Make twenty minutes useful
Use the first five minutes to recall yesterday’s material without opening the notes. Spend ten minutes on one new pattern, and the final five using it in a sentence of your own. A correct answer immediately after reading a rule is useful; recalling it the next day gives you a different check.
Keep an error notebook with three columns: what you said, the corrected version, and the reason. For example, write “커피 둘 잔 → 커피 두 잔 → 둘 changes to 두 before a counter.” A reason you can explain is more useful than a long list of corrections you cannot use.
After the first week
Return to the day that felt hardest. If decoding Hangul still takes all your attention, practise reading before adding many new words. If reading is comfortable but choosing endings is difficult, study speech levels and grammar. If you can form sentences, use dialogues and replace one part of each exchange with your own information.
The vocabulary lesson gives you topic groups; the flashcard tool is useful for recall. The typing lesson helps you write Korean on a keyboard. Use culture guides to connect words to situations, while keeping unfamiliar language at a manageable level.
